Archbishop criticizes Obama, Catholic allies
Here is another great article on Archbishop Chaput and his statements on the upcoming election.
Denver Roman Catholic Archbishop Charles Chaput labeled Barack Obama the “most committed” abortion-rights candidate from a major party in 35 years while accusing a Catholic Obama ally and other Democratic-friendly Catholic groups of doing a “disservice to the church.”
Chaput, one of the nation’s most politically outspoken Catholic prelates, delivered the remarks Friday night at a dinner of a Catholic women’s group.
His comments were among the sharpest in a debate over abortion and Catholic political responsibility in a campaign in which Catholics represent a key swing vote…..
“To suggest — as some Catholics do — that Senator Obama is this year’s ‘real’ pro-life candidate requires a peculiar kind of self-hypnosis, or moral confusion, or worse,” Chaput said according to his prepared remarks, titled “Little Murders.”….
Pro-Obama Catholics “seek to contextualize, demote and then counterbalance the evil of abortion with other important but less foundational social issues,” said Chaput, who wrote a book this year, “Render Unto Caesar,” about Catholics and politics….(Read the entire article here)
I love this guy!

Senator John McCain is still defending his acceptance of an endorsement from megachurch pastor John Hagee – who has called the Catholic Church “the Great Whore,” and accused the Catholic Church of inspiring Adolf Hitler to initiate the Holocaust. This doesn’t make Archbishop Chaput look too bright – or for that matter, not much of a defender of his church!
But the presumptive Republican nominee’s continued intransigence is revealing a new design flaw in the Straight Talk Express. Even as McCain refuses to distance himself from Hagee’s anti-Catholic comments, it turns out that during the contentious 2000 GOP primary he had himself denounced then-Governor George W. Bush for cozying up to Catholic-bashers.
It was widely reported during the run-up to the 2000 contest in Michigan that the McCain campaign delivered a “Catholic Voter Alert” in the form of robo-calls to Catholic voters. Why? …because Bush refused to denounce the anti-Catholic views of Bob Jones University after receiving its tacit endorsement. In the alert, McCain criticized the Governor and lauded his own outspoken criticism of anti-Catholic bigotry. Here’s the text of the McCain campaign’s phone message:
“This is a Catholic Voter Alert. Governor George Bush has campaigned against Senator John McCain by seeking the support of Southern fundamentalists who have expressed anti-Catholic views. Several weeks ago, Governor Bush spoke at Bob Jones University in South Carolina.” Yet, McCain’s choice of religious supporters as John Hagee has made strong anti-Catholic statements, including calling the Pope the anti-Christ, the Catholic Church a satanic cult!
John McCain may be anti-abortion, but he is FAR from being PRO-LIFE or pro-Catholic!!! While befriending and seeking Hagee’s public and religious support, he and Bush have remained silent and continue to seek the support of Bob Jones University. In spite of this, one out-spoken ‘pro-life’ Catholic Archbishop (Chaput) has publicly voiced his support McCain, in hopes of luring Catholics to support John McCain for president – giving Chaput an ignorant stance.
John McCain has previously earned headlines by calling the religious right “agents of intolerance.” But now he’s “honored” to receive the endorsement of opposing religious leaders and culture warriors like Pastor Hagee and Archbishop Chaput! Who would have thought these two McCain supporters (Hagee and Chaput) would be on the same stage – especially with Rev. Hagee’s “whore” labeling on Archbishop’s Church and naming his leader (the Pope) as the anti-Christ.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops have repeatedly attempted to silence Archbishop Chaput’s public political voice and remind all Catholics that Chaput’s voice does not represent the voice of the Catholic Church. USCCB continues to urge all Catholics to become familiar with Faithful Citizenship and the moral obligation of all Catholics to vote.
Please consider posting the linked video. It shows a clear distinction between McCain and Obama iin regards to the abortion issue. Thank you and God bless your work… Ernesto
