Conservative Bishop John Nienstedt has been appointed to succeed Archbishop Flynn leading the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. He is described as a gifted liturgist and administrator, but is also known for controversy. As bishop in New Ulm, Nienstedt prohibited cohabitating couples from being married in Catholic churches.
