‘a nice little sponge bath.’

The CATHOLIC LEAGUE is bringing to light some of the anti-Catholic rhetoric that takes place on “The View” on a regular basis.  The show features two ex-Catholics that do not seem to know as much about Catholicism as they think.

Here is the contact information for ABC.

Abortion Ruling Results in a Backlash for Catholic Justices

Several commentators have raised questions about the Catholicity of the five Supreme Court Justices who wrote the majorityopinion upholding the constitutionality of the ban on partial birth abortions.  Once again, it has been shown that Anti-Catholic bigotry is the last acceptable prejudice.

Rosie O’Donnell was one of the first to show her anti-Catholic bigotry.

O’Donnell asked last week on ABC’s “The View.” “How many Supreme Court judges are Catholic?”   “Five,” O’Donnell said. “How about separation of church and state in America?”   “If men could get pregnant,” O’Donnell said, “abortion would be a sacrament.”

Geoffry Stone , a University of Chicago Law Professor, was next.

“All five justices in the majority in Gonzales are Catholic,” wrote Stone in a faculty blog. “The four justices who either are Protestant or Jewish all voted in accord with settled precedent. It is mortifying to have to point this out. But it is too obvious, and too telling to ignore.”

Stone said it was “sad” that the justices in the majority had “failed to respect the fundamental difference between religious belief and morality.”

I think it is time for University of Chicago alum and “The View” fans to speak up and say that enough is enough.  Tell them that this type of hateful speech is not acceptable.

St. Louis archbishop takes a stand

Archbishop Raymond Burke resigned as head of a children’s medical charity that featured the Sheryl Crow for a benefit concert.   He quit as chairman of the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation after its board of governors refused to pull the plug on Crow’s Saturday concert in St. Louis.

She is “well-known as an abortion activist” and proponent of stem cell research, he said in a statement on Wednesday, and her appearance is “an affront to the identity and mission of the medical center, dedicated as it is to the service of life and Christ’s healing mission.”

Conservative bishop to succeed Flynn in the Twin Cities

Conservative Bishop John Nienstedt has been appointed to succeed Archbishop Flynn leading the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.  He is described as a gifted liturgist and administrator,  but is also known for controversy.  As bishop in New Ulm, Nienstedt prohibited cohabitating couples from being married in Catholic churches.

Mount Mercy College

My son is applying to Mount Mercy College.  Anybody have any knowledge or opinion of the school?  I was not familiar with it at all until he became interested in going there.

Presidential Candidates Discuss Politics and Catholic Faith

EWTN.com has a good story on Sens. Christopher Dodd and Sam Brownback discussing their views on policy from their perspective of the Catholic faith.  It is worth checking out.

Pro-Abortion group files complaint against Priest for Life

A IRS Complaint was filed accusing Priest for Life of violating IRS regulations concerning electoral campaigning. It seems that this group has a habit of filing these complaints. They filed one in both 2004 and 2006.

I guess that the discourse, education and advocacy that they promote on their website is not working so they are turning to these tactics. Whether Priest for Life violated a IRS regulation or not does not change the facts: this group is on the wrong side by promoting abortion. Keep them in your prayers!

The Science of Stem Cells

The Kansas Catholic Conference has developed an educational video for the purpose of impressing upon people that there is a difference between adult and embryonic stem cell research. The video also makes it clear that embryonic stem cell research is bad science — not just from an ethical and moral perspective, but from a practical standpoint as well.

One in 30 alive

One baby in 30 left alive after being aborted according to this study. This is a really sad statistic. The article states that some the babies lived for an average of 80 minutes and that some lived up to 6 hours.

Catholic Information Service has recently published three new booklets, which can be ordered here.

  • Armed with the Faith (364) is the civilian edition of our military prayer book. Those wishing to express their solidarity with our men and women in harm’s way will find this booklet helpful.

  •  The Holy Eucharist (320) will benefit those seeking a deeper understanding of the Sacrament that is the “source and summit” of our faith.

What Every Catholic Should Know….

Check out this site for the things that we all should know.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart.”

Topping the lists of favorite Bible Verses is:

#1: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own
understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your
paths.”

#2: “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans
for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Center for a Just Society

I recently ran across this on the internet and thought that I would share it.  The Center for a Just Society’s mission is to advance and defend Judeo-Christian principles of human dignity and social justice in law, policy and the public square.

What kind of Mickie Mouse operation is this?

Disney has changed their policy to allow gay and lesbian couples to purchase wedding packages at it resort theme parks and on its cruise line. This is not surprising as this is the path that Disney has been going down for quite a while.

What is surprising is that it seems to have been just accepted by the groups that usually encourage Disney to promote traditional family values. Hopefully we are not getting to the point where we just give up, turn the other way and accept such things. (more)
