Who’s Next??
A Hasidic Jewish man was removed from an Air Canada Jazz flight in Montreal last week. Witness said that the Orthodox Jew was reading from a book and began to pray. The airline said that since the man did not speak either English or France, they had to return to the gate to get a translator.
I can understand that the airline has to take precautions and not take chances. However, we have to make sure that an individuals right to practice their religion is not infringed upon. How do you define what is “acceptable” pray? Is saying grace in public OK? What about going back to work sporting ashes on your forehead after an Ash Wednesday Mass? These may sound like silly examples but it is something that we need to careful with.
“First They Came for the Jews”
By Pastor Niemoller

First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not
a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was
not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.
a Communist.
not a trade unionist.
