Stem Cell Billionaires – still looking to buy the fountain of youth

Forbes magazine has an article listing who the billionaires are that are bank rolling the stem cell industry in this country. Guess they think that if they have enough money that they can buy immortality. The article lists several of the larger supporters of the research in this country. Some names you will recognize and others you will not.

    • Eli Broad, the founder of builder KB Home, gave $25 million in February to the University of Southern California to erect a stem-cell building.
    • Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire and Republican mayor of New York, has promised $100 million to fund stem-cell and other biotech research at Johns Hopkins University.
    • Andy Grove, founder of Intel, gave a $5 million gift to the stem-cell lab at University of California, San Francisco.
    • Ray Dolby, inventor of the Dolby sound system, gave $16 million to the same stem-cell lab at University of California as Mr. Grove.
    • Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle, has given almost $4 million to various embryonic stem-cell research projects.
