What’s that mean to the Investor?

Europe Parliament Takes Stand for Same-Sex Unions

According to a resolution passed by the European Parliment, Member States need to ensure that “same-sex partners enjoy the same respect, dignity and protection as the rest of society”.

They also urge the Commission to start infringement proceedings against those Member States that fail to implement the directive on equal treatment in employment and occupation, and to consider the use of criminal penalties in cases of violation.

The major concern is that same-sex couples from member countries that accept such unions, lose their “rights” when they move to another country that does not recognize same-sex partnerships.

Get ready for the same type of arguments in the US as gay rights activist try to force all states to accept homosexual unions that are sanctioned by other states.

You can get more information on the European Union website.

You can contact the EU to let them know that member countries should not be forced to recognize homosexual relationships.

Catholic School Fundraiser includes Detroit Piston dance team

Brother Rice Catholic high school in Bloomington Hill, Michigan is hosting an alumni/stag party featuring the Detroit Piston dance team, “Automation”. The dance team has recently recieved a lot of negative attention based on a calendar that they put out. The calendar featured pictures of the scantily clad women and topless photos.

Read more about the story here.

The sponsors of this event can be found at the Brother Rice website.

I think that this is inappropriate for a Catholic school the “promotes excellence through an environment conducive to life-long personal growth, responsible moral choice and critical thinking”.

If you agree, you can contact the school here.

Wal-Mart

The Md. Senate overrides the Governor’s veto of the “Wal-Mart” Bill.

This bill will require companies with more than 10,000 Maryland employees to spend at least 8 percent of their payroll on employee health care or pay the difference into the state’s Medicaid fund. Wal-Mart, with 17,000 employees is the only business in the state that will have to comply with this law.

What do you think? As a generally rule, I believe in limited government regulation in business operations. However, sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture. I agree that the exectutive team at Wal-mart have an obligation to their shareholder’s to maximize profit but it cannot be done at the expense of it’s workers. Anyone who is working a full-time job for the biggest employer in the world should be able to afford access to health insurance without having to rely on the state Medicaid fund.

Contact Walmart to let them know what you think.

The Joy of Priesthood

This excerpt on Godspy of a recent book by Fr. Stephen J. Rossetti is  a must read for any one wanting learn more about the priesthood.

Just
as priesthood is more difficult than most of us thought it would be, it
is also a lot better. In the end, there can be no mediocrity in this
life, no room for a half-hearted priesthood. It demands a personal,
total, and radical commitment. I believe that one of the many learnings
from the 2002 church crisis in the U.S. is that we are called to a life
of full integrity and to a level of holiness that we might not have
thought possible. In fact, it is the laity who has challenged us to
these heights of sanctity. The people expect us to be chaste, humble,
and totally dedicated servants of God. In our hearts, I suspect this is
what we want for ourselves too.

There are many trials and struggles of our priestly lives… But these are nothing compared to the majesty of our calling.

The priest shortage is indeed a negative sign of our affluence and the materialistic narcissism of our day.

Our lives are dedicated completely to God, and to the people. Thus,
they are sacred, despite our perpetually nagging human frailty.

Wisconsin Governor Vetoes Abortion-Pain Bill

Governor Jim Doyle has vetoed a bill requiring that women seeking abortions after their fifth month of pregnancy be informed that their fetuses could suffer pain.

When a fetus can feel pain is a matter of debate in the medical community. I would hope that we would error on the side of the baby since there is some research that supports the theory that a fetus can feel pain at the 20th week of pregnancy. I guess that Governor Doyle doesn’t agree.

“THE Place To Meet”!

The Crowne Plaza Hotel-Airport in Orlando played host to a swingers’ party on New Year’s eve. Some of the sexually adventurous partygoers flashed breasts and bare buttocks in front of the other guest as they sashayed through the hotel atrium. I guess this is what they mean when the staff is dedicated to making this hotel “THE Place To Meet”!

Also staying at the hotel that night were numerous families including a teenage socer team.

According to one of the parents, “The kids could see through the glass atrium into the ballroom where naked people were dancing. There were exposed breasts, thongs and see- through dresses on women who were not wearing any underwear.”

Their website boast, “A short drive from Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World…”. Sounds like a nice family attmosphere at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Orlando!
