Sprint Nextel helps homeless connect with loved ones!
Sprint Nextel is providing free phone banks at Project Homeless Connect events in San Francisco and Indianapolis.
San Francisco’s Mayor Gavin Newsom started Homeless Connect in 2004 to bring together multiple services under one roof to help people who often don’t take advantage of services because they can’t reach them. Since that time, the program has spread to over 15 other cities across the country.
According to Mayor Newsom, “Project Homeless Connect is breaking the myth that people do not seek assistance and services and would simply prefer to be on the street. The data proves that when people are approached in a respectful and kind manner, and with available resources, they are eager to accept help towards self-sufficiency. National outreach professionals agree that it takes multiple contacts to build trust towards accepting assistance. The goal of this effort is to do just that.”
